Work Experience
2001 – Present: Software Engineer
intefo AG, Herzogenbuchsee and FELA Management AG, Diessenhofen
Responsible for analysis, design, implementation, testing and attendance of software systems. Worked in multiple fields, including user interfaces, server applications and embedded systems in both windows and linux-based environments. Other responsibilities included system administration of internal linux-based infrastructure and services.
My Projects
2005 – Present: TriponEU (Linux, C, Python)
Development of FELA’s next generation on-board unit for tolling applications based on embedded linux. My responsibilities included porting the bootloader and the linux kernel to the ARM platform, setting up a development environment based on linux and eclipse, development of device drivers, basic services (GSM/GPRS, GPS, sensor systems, MMI) and the tolling applications. The first tests were conducted in the UK for the LRUC (Lorry Road User Charge) project. Unfortunately, despite promising early trails, the project was cancelled by the UK government. The software was continually refined to adapt to several other projects and trials around Europe. The most recent being RCI (Road Charging Interoperability), an EU research project for an interoperable tolling system within Europe. Today, FELA is the only manufacturer featuring an on-board unit incorporating all technologies currently in use for road charging.
2007: TriponEU web services (RubyOnRails)
Development of a web application to provide backend services to the TriponEU on-board units (updates, data collection, maintenance), as well as a multi-user frontend for data inspection and analysis.
2006/2007: Mapmatching framework (Linux, C/C++)
Development of modular components for mapmatching. This includes a utility for converting, optimizing, and packaging of road network data, a portable core library implemeting different mapmatching algorithms (based on c-measure and fuzzy-interference-system) and a graphical frontend for both testing and offline processing. These components have been used successfully for distance-based charging tests in London and the Netherlands and have been implemented in the TriponEU on-board unit.
2004: Geoeditor (Windows, Delphi)
Development of an in-house software application for creating and editing GIS datasets. This application was continually refined to meet new demands for upcoming projects.
2004: Mobile enforcement software for the Swiss LSVA (Windows, Delphi, C)
Design and implementation of the software platform for a mobile enforcement prototype. This consisted of an image capturing system with automatic triggering based on infrared and ultrasonic sensors, an interface to the DSRC beacon system, a database backend and a client-server environment. The prototype went productive after about a year of development and was incrementally refined afterwards. It is still in use.
2003: Mapping services for CarLoc (Windows, Delphi, JAVA, C)
Development of mapping services for CarLoc, a fleet management and vehicle localization system. This included server software to provide map rendering and geocoding capabilities, a client framework for viewing and editing of vehicles and geozones and efficient algorithms for geozone intersection for the embedded clients. www.carloc.ch
2002: Abnahmestelle 2 software for the Swiss LSVA (Windows, Delphi)
Complete rewriting of the Abnahmestelle software used in Swiss garages for the setup and maintenance of the swiss LSVA on-board units, with specific focus on the simplification of the user interface. The new software allowed the users to do their tasks more efficently, less error-prone and time-saving, thus leveraging the support effort for FELA. The software has been in use for 4 years and will also serve for the 2nd generation of the LSVA hardware coming in 2008.
